Next trip...
I know, I've been back for a whole 2 weeks, surely I can't be heading off again!? Well, not for a bit... but I've started planning March. Possibly a chance to get the hang of hitching in the north island...

The Sounds
I've been in the Marlborough Sounds for 3 days.
Stayed at my Aunty and Uncle's place in Yncyca Bay which is off Pelorus Sound. We slept in a loft, ate amazing food, kayaked, collected mussels, had hot showers thanks to a wood fire, had lights thanks to a solar panel and a hydro generator and were very isolated thanks to the 40 minute boat ride!

The Jetty and the boat that took us and our kayak's out around
the point so we only had to go one way
Amazing water
Despite the isolation, we ate well!
An old 4WD forestry jeep Uncle Ben uses to lug stuff around the property.
It has amazingly low gears, stick it in first and it'll idle up hill!
Back from tripping around
After 3 days hitching and 3 days in the Marlborough Sounds I'm back in Nelson for a few days before I return to Welly.

The Sounds
Next stop (day after getting back from hitch hike):

Yncyca Bay, Pelorus Sound
Andre and I are heading out with my Aunty and Uncle who have some property and a hut there. It'll be a couple of days of serious chilling! Oh yeah. Although it won't be totally basic, they do have their own little hydro electric scheme!

Hitch hiking the northern South Island
We just did a quick hitch hike. The route we took is below. Managed to get a ride all the way from Kaikoura back to Nelson so we're back for an evening then heading out to the Aunty and Uncle's hut in the Sounds tomorrow morning. All up it was 3 days 2 nights. Took us 10 rides. One night in a tent, one lying on the beach in Kaikoura.
Photos to come after the Sounds trip.
